A Young Male Gets A "Driving Under The Influence" Arrest And Decides To Hire A DUI Attorney

Although Franklin wasn't a lawyer, he told his son that he learned the hard way when as a young man he received a DUI, represented himself in the local court, paid twenty-five hundred dollars in fines and penalties, and served four months in jail. As he mentioned to his son, after he got out of jail, he found out from an attorney friend that had he hired a DUI attorney to represent him in court, he probably would have had his fines and penalties considerably reduced and he may have never served any jail time.

When Lawrence heard this he knew he needed more DUI facts and so he asked his father for more information about what a DUI attorney can do in a DUI arrest. His father then stated the following: "DUI attorneys work within a specialized area of jurisprudence known as DUI criminal law. DUI lawyers have access to legal techniques, research data, and information of which other lawyers may not be aware. DUI lawyers understand the 'system' and offer you a better chance of retaining your freedom than you would have by representing yourself OR by hiring an attorney who is not knowledgeable of or proficient in DUI law."

When Lawrence listened to his dad explain this, it was as if his eyes were opened for the first time about the significance of hiring a DWI attorney. Near the end of their discussion, Lawrence mentioned that he was starting to understand more about "drunk driving" laws and what DUI attorneys can do for an individual who has received a "drunk driving" arrest.

After getting "schooled" about DWI arrests, the role of DUI attorneys, and understanding that he didn't have to agree to take any field sobriety tests at the time of his arrest, Lawrence made up his mind that he would definitely hire a DUI attorney to represent him in court. Something else, however, took place after he had talked to his dad. Lawrence at last began to comprehend the critical nature of DWI arrests and, as a consequence, he made up his mind that from this point forward, he would always drink in moderation so that he would never again have to suffer through another "driving under the influence" arrest.

His dad smiled at Lawrence and mentioned the following: "son, it took me until I was thirty-five years old to realize what you just told me. I am really proud of you." This did wonders for his self worth and so Lawrence thanked his dad and then said, "if I can always drink in moderation, I will never need to hire a driving under the influence attorney again!"

Regrettably, there was one issue that neither Lawrence nor his father considered, namely, if Lawrence is manifesting any alcohol abuse signs or perhaps if he is exhibiting any of the usual signs of alcoholism. Indeed, if Lawrence is exhibiting any alcohol signs that point to alcohol abuse or alcoholism, more likely than not he will need alcohol rehabilitation.

In all honesty, Lawrence may be required by the court to get rehab for his excessive and abusive drinking. The good news, conversely, is that whatever it takes to address his careless drinking, it seems that Lawrence will be highly motivated to do the "right" thing.
